Dutch EQC Qualification Review

by Rein Anspach

The Dutch qualifier for the European Quidditch Cup (EQC) was held on Sunday, Jan. 22. This day was originally intended to be the 2017 Dutch Quidditch Cup, but upon arrival, the venue turned out to be unavailable due to the pitches being frozen. Later that morning, the pitches were cleared for play, but by then the original schedule would have been impossible to fit into the remaining hours of light. As a result, the schedule was minimised and it was decided that this tournament would only serve to decide which team would go to EQC, with a possible proper national championship being delayed until later in the season.

International Weekend Wrap-Up - January 21-22

Contributions by Chula Bruggeling, Lena Mandahus, TJ Goaley, Neha Korrapati, Kenny Stowe, and Nat Davis There is a lot going on in the world of quidditch on any particular weekend, and most of us only see the stories immediately relevant to our regions. However, it can be very interesting to look outside of our own bubble every once in awhile and take a look at the rest of the global community. To that end, each week the Quidditch Post collects information about tournaments and events that happened during the weekend around the world. This week we are covering the Dutch EQC Qualifier; the Austrian EQC Qualifier; USQ Southwest’s Brooms on the Brazos; USQ South’s Old Money Classic IV and the Horns up for Harambe Memorial Championship; and USQ Great Lakes’ the Grindy Slam Winter Jam.

As there are only four teams, all teams will play each other once, with the top two teams facing off in the finals and the bottom two teams battling for third place.

World Cup 2016: Spotlight on the Netherlands | Nederland in de schijnwerpers

Spotlight on the Netherlands
By Chula Bruggeling

Editor’s Note: Chula Bruggeling is President of Quidditch Nederland.

History
Quidditch in the Netherlands started, in true European fashion, in a very complicated and very international way. Jerona van der Gevel, having played for Norwich, UK once, missed playing quidditch and went to Brussels Muscles Invitational in Belgium in Nov. 2013, where she was a merc player for the French team Toulouse Muggle Quidditch. In Feb. 2014, both Van der Gevel and Bram Vries, who had learned of quidditch online, merced for Norwegian team NTNUI Rumpeldunk at European Quidditch Cup 2014.

Dutch Quidditch Cup 2015 Recap

By Inke Gieghase
Introduction

On Nov. 21, the first official Dutch Quidditch Cup was organised. Three teams from the Netherlands gathered in Wageningen to enjoy a small, yet landmark tournament. The teams at this event were the North Sea Nargles, the Dom Tower Dementors, and the Wageningen Werewolves. Despite only having three teams in attendance, the afternoon still had quidditch games that show that the Dutch players were very eager to learn and are well on their way to developing further as a region.

During the first stage of the tournament, all teams competed against all other teams in a round-robin format, with the second part of the tournament consisting of the bronze medal game and the final.
