World Cup 2016: Spotlight on Mexico | Enfocados en México

By David Mejía Translated to English by Miles Freedenberg Original Spanish version below. History
In the north of Mexico, in the border city of Tijuana, a group of young people interested in quidditch came together and formed the first teams in 2012. But the real boom came in March 2014 when quidditch came to Mexico City, where the majority of Mexican players live. Since then, quidditch has grown to be played by approximately 200 people in the country. There are currently seven official teams in Quidditch México (QMX): Black Sabers, Boggarts Toluca, Chintolobos, Guerreros de Quetzalcoatl, Los 9 ¾, Patronus Querétaro, and Qwertyrians Tijuana, and there are still others forming. All of them are community teams except for Patronus Querétaro, who play for the Autonomous University of Queretaro (Universidad Autónoma de Querétaro).

The majority of teams are from the capital city, with other teams and individual players coming from Tijuana and Querétaro. With a group of referees, volunteers, and a handful of Quidditch Mexico staff, the tournament will undoubtedly be the largest quidditch event ever held in Mexico.
