What's Next After the Asian Quidditch Cup?

By Andrew Kasimir

The first Asian Quidditch Cup, held on 30 and 31 July, 2016, has come and gone, with the Australian National University Owls (ANU Owls) being crowned champions. It was a three-team tournament comprising two Malaysian teams, the Subang Chimaeras and Damansara Dementors, as well as the Australian champions. The final scores can be found here.

Until the Asian Quidditch Cup, the majority of Malaysian players had never played at a tournament with certified referees. Furthermore, the Subang Chimaeras and Damansara Dementors never really played as a unit until recently; the Chimaeras only started up in March of this year, meaning the Dementors were the only quidditch team in Malaysia for almost as long as quidditch has been in the country.

Asian Quidditch Cup 2016

By Charmaine Goh

Literally a week after the very eventful IQA World Cup in Frankfurt, Germany, which saw Team Australia emerge as overall champions, Asia will see its first international quidditch tournament that is set to take place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The inaugural Asian Quidditch Cup will see three club teams from Australia and Malaysia competing for the right to call themselves the best team in Asia. The three teams are the Subang Chimaeras (Malaysia), Australian National University Owls (Australia), and the Damansara Dementors (Malaysia).

Malaysian Players Hone Skills Abroad

By Andrew Kasimir

Regardless of the very small size of the quidditch community in Malaysia, the country has been relatively active in the sport since quidditch was first introduced there in 2013. In the three years since the sport arrived, some Malaysians have been playing quidditch abroad while some started playing back home and then continued when they left the country. Here, we take a look at just a few of these Malaysians who are making a name for themselves in their respective clubs.

An Argument for the Inclusion of Team Asia

By Andrew W. Wright

The following piece represents the opinion of the author and not of the Quidditch Post.

This is the fourth year that I have been a part of OBU Quidditch, a team hailing from a small liberal arts college in Shawnee, Oklahoma, but this isn’t where I grew up. Due to my parents’ work, I was born and raised in Taiwan, a small island nation off of the coast of China. As it so happens, a small and largely inexperienced quidditch community has recently arisen. Obviously, this is something that has excited me. Although I may hold an American passport, my heart has always been back in Taiwan.

2Spooky4Me Tournament Recap

Editor’s Note: This was republished from Sean Thum’s blog with full permission. Light edits have been made

By Sean Thum

It took weeks to plan, days to get ready, and hours for people to arrive, but when the wait was over, it was worth it, for the 2Spooky4Me Quidditch Tournament began with a bang and never looked back.

Aptly held on 31 Oct. 2015, 2Spooky 4Me was a tribute to the literary phenomenon created by J.K. Rowling. I applaud the organizers, the always awesome Damansara Dementors, for their decision to coincide the tournament with a date of extreme significance in the Harry Potter universe. For the benefit of muggles who do not know, the date represents the end of the First Wizarding War following the sacrifice of Lily and James Potter.

Sri KL Host's Malaysia's Biggest Tournament

By Andrew Kasimir

On Aug. 22, close to 120 participants took part in the Leo Quidditch Tournament (LQT) in UEP Subang Jaya, Malaysia (USJ). LQT organizers can now proudly boast having hosted the biggest fantasy tournament that Malaysia has ever seen, superseding last year’s Malaysia Day Fantasy Tournament, which was organized by the Damansara Dementors and had about 60 participants.

Malaysia's Second Team Gets Off the Ground

By Andrew Kasimir

Malaysia has a new team. Joining the Damansara Dementors are the MBPF Phoenixes, the country’s second active quidditch team. Based in Shah Alam, the MBPF Phoenixes are headed by Nadzirah Zainuddin and Najihah Malek. The MBPF in the team name is short for Malaysia’s Biggest Harry Potter Fans, which is a fan club headed by Nadzirah and Najihah. MBPF was founded after the release of the final Harry Potter movie with the intention of creating a place for Potterheads in Malaysia to gather online and offline.

By: Aggi Dilimanto Prabowo and Andrew Kasimir

There are rumours going around about a tournament called the Asian Quidditch Cup (AQC) and – while nothing is official yet Quidditch Indonesia got in touch with a few people in the Asian quidditch community to find out what is happening. Quidditch Post’s Andrew Kasimir sat down with a few more individuals.
