As first reported by the Eighth Man via Twitter, Marquette University Quidditch will be declining its bid to USQ World Cup 8.
“We have received official notice from Marquette that they will not be able to attend this year,” wrote Commissioner Alex Benepe.
As per USQ’s bid allocation process, the spot will be offered to teams in the Midwest Region based on their finish at the Midwest Regional Championship this fall. The Illinois State University Firebirds (ISU) will have the first opportunity to replace Marquette at World Cup.
ISU will be meeting to discuss the feasibility of attending World Cup 8.
“We will be having a meeting tonight at 8 p.m. [Central] to discuss if we will be able to attend,” said Alyssa Marassa who is ISU’s captain. “We have been fundraising in hopes of a moment like this. With such short notice, it will not be easy. We have a lot of dedicated members and we will be doing everything we can to make it. We are all extremely excited. This would be the third World Cup that ISU would attend.”
We will update this post as more information becomes available.
