Opportunities for Expansion in Africa: John Ssentamu’s Trip to Kenya

On Sept. 31, 2016, I started my journey to Kenya from Uganda for a sports leadership training in Rapids Camp in Sagana, a small town about 100 kilometers north of Nairobi. Since it was focused on how to start and run community sports teams, it was an opportunity for me to discuss quidditch with the other African sports leaders that had gathered there.

BREAKING: IQA Issues Formal Statement Reversing Stance on Uganda Refunds

Chris Daw, official spokesperson for the four IQA Trustees, has reached out to the Quidditch Post to rectify earlier statements. Contrary to earlier reports from Tournament Director Matthew Guenzel, requests for refunds, resulting from Uganda’s drop from World Cup 2016 that was announced earlier today, will be taken from all donors to the Uganda Indiegogo campaign, the Quidditch Post can exclusively reveal. All requests for refunds will be fulfilled, however without a request for a refund, the funds will remain with the IQA.

Visa Woes Force Uganda to Drop from World Cup

In a story reverberating throughout the worldwide quidditch community, the Quidditch World Cup Organizing Committee has officially announced on July 8 that due to an inability to obtain visas to travel to Germany, Uganda has dropped from the tournament slated to begin in just over two weeks.

Quidditch in the Heart of Africa

Quidditch began in Uganda two years ago under the stewardship of John Ssentamu, Headmaster of Good Shepherd Christian Junior School in Katwadde Village and Gertrude Nakintu, founder of the Women and Girls Can Initiative. To begin with, the students were divided into five teams which practiced together during term time and by mid-2013 were holding regular intramural matches.

Quidditch Hits Uganda

In 2013, Uganda was granted permission by the IQA to form a quidditch team. Quidditch in Uganda is steadily growing. The visit of coach Angus Barry, a student from Oxford University, increased confidence in the first batch of players in Katwadde Village. He brought sports equipment for quidditch and conducted several training sessions.
