Summary: We have our first upset as the judges were evenly split between No. 6 seed Katrina Bossotti and No. 11 seed Missy Sponagle, but the fans carried Sponagle to victory with 59 percent of the vote. The top three seeds cruised to victory with No. 2 Mollie Lensing and No. 3 Hope Machala each shutting out their opponent. No. 4 seed Brittany Ripperger pulled a shutout with the judges, No. 13 Shannon Moorhead grabbed 54 percent of the vote to avoid the shutout. Moorhead seems to be a player who our judges regarded differently from our readers as she needed the readers’ support to bring her into the bracket. Midwest voters supported two of their beaters well, winning the popular vote for No. 5 Ashley Calhoun and No. 10 Julie Fritz; however, Fritz’s popular support was not enough to lead her over Amanda “Turtles” Nagy. No. 8 Beth Clementi pulled off the first come from behind victory as she trailed 6-5 after the judge vote, but took home 55 percent of the vote to win 8*-6.

Matchup of the Day: No. 8 Beth Clementi def. No. 9 Jennifer Baumgartner 8*-6

Beth Clementi and Jennifer Baumgartner faced off in a tight vote where the fans carried Clementi over Baumgartner into the next round.  Clementi added a very impressive line to her quiddtich resume as she moved into the spotlight nation-wide with her contribution to Texas State’s run to the finals of World Cup VII last year.

Upset Special: No. 11 Missy Spongale def. No. 6 Katrina Bossotti 9*-6

Katrina was one of the first great female beaters, but Missy would be a star on a ton of teams Her tackling is on par or better than most beaters in this tournament, shes got near perfect aim, and she has more hustle than nearly anyone I've ever played quidditch with. She's a better chaser than she is a beater, but she's still a stupidly amazing beater.
