Frog Takedown Titans in All-Paris France Cup Final

By Dario Donnarumma
The small town of Viroflay, France, near the famous Palace of Versailles, hosted the first France Cup December 6-7. Over these two days, 10 French teams contested 30 games in the stadium “des Bertisettes,” where two regular quidditch fields were traced on the artificial turf of the 11-a-side football field in freezing cold weather. The two favorites from Paris, the Titans and the Frog, faced off in the championship. These two teams dominated in each group, both showing impenetrable defenses balanced with strong attacks in their individual matches. The final match was fast-paced despite frequent stops to ensure a fair and loyal game. The first point was scored by the Titans, which was suddenly balanced by the Frog; the match continued this way after a seeker floor of 5 minutes. The two teams were neck-and-neck until the Frog’s seeker captured the snitch in one clean move, despite the Titans superior snitch-game.

Crookshanks Lyon took the bronze medal with a 50*-10 victory over Nantes in a match full of action. Both teams did their best, but the Crookshanks gave their all from the beginning with a strong defense that left no space for any offensive action. The Rouen Skrewts took fifth over the Lille Black Snitches, while Toulouse Quidditch took down les Nains de Nîmes for seventh place. This team deserves a mention, I think, because it showed uncommon strength for a newborn team in its first official event—let's keep an eye on them. A Fair-Play prize was donated by the Virofly major and assigned to the Toulouse team, now busy organizing an international tournament in its hometown, La Violette, 24-25 of January. Save the date!

The official final ranking released by the FQF (Fédération du Quidditch Français) follows:
1- Paris Frog Quidditch
2- Titans Paris Quidditch
3- Crookshanks Lyon Quidditch
4- Nantes Quidditch
5- Rouen Skrewts
6- Lille Muggle Quidditch - Black Snitches
7- Toulouse Quidditch (Fair-Play prize)
8- Nains de Nîmes
9- Les Maraudeurs de Rennes
10- Sonic Brooms d'Essonne

We will see the first four teams at the European Championship, as was recently announced. More detailed score and reflections accompanied by videos of the event will be released by the FQF during the holidays.
