Turkish Quidditch Cup 2015 Preview/Türkiye Quidditch Kupası 2015 Tanıtımı

Turkish quidditch is taking flight this weekend as teams try to qualify for the European Quidditch Championship in Oxford, UK. Turkish Quidditch Cup 2015 will take place in Ankara on March 1. The teams competing are the ODTÜ Hippogriffs, the METU Unicorns, the ITU Honeybees, and the METU Phoenix. The champion and the runner up of this tournament will earn the right to represent Turkey in EQC happening in Oxford. Although it has not yet been announced how the Turkish National Quidditch Team will be selected, the tournament will be a great way for the players to display their abilities.

About 100 spectators are expected to witness this historical moment. The Turkish Quidditch Association, along with volunteers from teams, did an amazing job organising the tournament, and the METU Quidditch Community has supplied it with hoops, brooms, and other quidditch equipment.

In the first stage of the tournament, every team will play a match against each other; then, after two hour break, there will be consolation matches and then the championship match. Each team will play four matches in total. Although all teams have at least 15 players on their roster, to equal a total of 75 players, considering the limited number of non-player referees and non-player snitches, players are likely going to find themselves exhausted quickly.

The ODTÜ Hippogriffs are attending the tournament with a full roster. While they have lots of alternatives for chaser and keeper positions, they do not have this luxury in beaters. Their one other disadvantage is that they don’t have a diverse female roster, so if their first choice female players get in trouble, they will have hard time replacing them. On the other hand, they have top quality seekers, so in the end we will see which one out balances the other.

The METU Unicorns are the other team attending the tournament with a full roster. However, they are coping with injuries: one of their co-captains has a broken finger and the other has a knee injury; it is not clear yet whether they will be able to play in the tournament. Therefore, the Unicorns are starting the tournament with handicaps. However, they still have a solid beater game and a really balanced roster where everyone can be replaced, which is a valuable perk for a long tournament.

The ITU Honeybees are the first and the only team from Istanbul. They have not played any official matches before; thus, their game style is a mystery to all the other teams. However, there are rumours that their chasers can fly and their beater can sting. In the light of these rumours, they may be dangerous to teams that are not careful.

The METU Phoenix is the last team, formed just a few weeks before the tournament. It has a couple of ex-Hippogriffs and ex-Unicorns on its roster, and the other players have practiced with the teams before. So in this short time, if the players can mesh together to create an effective team, it certainly will have a shot at the championship.

The experienced teams (the ODTÜ Hippogriffs and the METU Unicorns) are the favorites of this tournament, but the METU Phoenix and the ITU Honeybees will fight for the title until the end whistle. No matter who wins the tournament, at the end of the day it’s Turkish quidditch that wins, paving the path to a better, far-reaching quidditch in Turkey.

Bir yaşından biraz daha büyük olan Türkiye quidditch’i bu günlerde çok heyecanlı. Türkiye Quidditch Kupası 2015, 1 Mart’ta Ankara’da gerçekleşecek. İlk ulusal turnuva olacak olan bu kupada; ODTÜ Hippogriffs, METU Unicorns, ITU Honeybees ve METU Phoenix olmak üzere 4 takım şampiyonluk için yarışacak. Turnuvanın şampiyonu ve ikincisi Türkiye’yi Oxford’ta yapılacak olacak Avrupa Quidditch Kupası’nda temsil etmeye hak kazanacak. Her ne kadar Türkiye Quidditch Ulusal Milli Takımı seçmelerinin nasıl olacağı duyurulmamış olsa da, turnuva, oyuncuların kendilerini göstermeleri için iyi bir fırsat olacak.

Hava durumu bulutlu bir Pazar günü olacağını gösteriyor ve eğer yağmur yağmazsa, yüze yakın seyircinin bu tarihi ana tanıklık etmesi bekleniyor. Takımlardan gönüllülerle birlikte Quidditch Derneği bu turnuvayı organize etmekte çok iyi iş çıkardı ve ODTÜ Quidditch Topluluğu ise turnuvaya çemberleri, süpürgeleri ve diğer quidditch ekipmanlarını destek oldu.

Turnuvanın ilk kısmında her takım birbiriyle oynadıktan sonra iki saatlik bir ara verilecek, ardından önce üçüncülük sonrasında da şampiyonluk maçı yapılacak. Takımlar toplamda 4 maç yapacaklar. Her ne kadar her takımın kadrosunda en az 15 oyuncu bulunsa da, toplam 75 oyuncu yapıyor, oyuncu olmayan hakemler ve oyuncu olmayan snitchlerin kısıtlı sayısı düşünüldüğünde, oyuncuları yorucu bir günün beklediği görülüyor.

ODTÜ Hippogriffs turnuvaya tam kadro katılıyor. Kovalayıcı ve tutucu pozisyonlarında pek çok alternatifleri olsa da, aynı lükse vurucu kadrosunda sahip değiller. Bir diğer dezavantajları ise kadın oyuncu kadrolarının kapsamlı olmaması, eğer ilk seçimleri olan kadın oyuncular sıkıntıya girerse, onların yerine oyuncu bulmakta zorlanacaklardır. Diğer yandan, çok kaliteli arayıcılara sahipler. Sonuçta, hangisinin ağır basacağını göreceğiz.

METU Unicorns turnuvaya tam kadro katılan bir diğer takım. Ancak sakatlıklarla boğuşuyorlar. Eş-kaptanlarının birinin parmağı kırıkken diğeri ise diz sakatlığıyla uğraşıyor ve turnuvada oynayıp oynayamayacağı kesinleşmiş değil. Bu yüzden Unicornlar turnuvaya dezavantajlı başlıyorlar. Ancak hala sağlam vurucu oyununa ve bütün gün süren turnuvalarda değerli bir avantaj olan, herkesin yerinin doldurulabildiği, gerçekten dengeli bir kadroya sahipler.

Turnuva’ya İstanbul’dan katılan ilk ve tek takım ITU Honeybees. Henüz hiç resmi maç oynamadıkları için oyun stilleri diğer takımlar için tam bir soru işareti. Ancak, kovalayıcılarının uçtuğu, vurucularının ise soktuğu yönünde dedikodular bulunuyor. Bu dedikodular ışığında, dikkatsiz olan takımlar için tehlikeli olabilecekleri söylenebilir.

Son takım ise turnuvadan birkaç hafta önce kurulan METU Phoenix. Kadrolarında birkaç eski Unicorn ve Hippogriff bulunduruyorlar ayrıca diğer oyuncuların çoğu da ortak antrenmanlarda bütün takımların tanıdığı simalar. Eğer bu kadar kısa bir sürede sahada bir takım olmayı başarmışlarsa, şampiyonluk için şansları kesinlikle bulunuyor.

Sonuç olarak, tecrübeli takımlar ODTÜ Hippogriffs ve METU Unicorns turnuvanın favorileri olsalar da METU Phoenix ve ITU Honeybees’in de son düdük çalana kadar birincilik için savaşacağından kimsenin şüphesi yok. Kupayı kim alırsa alsın, sonunda Türkiye quidditch’inin kazanacağı ve Türkiye’de daha iyi, daha geniş kitlelere ulaşan bir quidditch’in yolunun açılacağı bir gerçek.
